The Girlfriend is my travel board, the 7'0" I take around the world.
It's the board I choose for clean days, on reefs and point breaks, whether I'm surfing in Italy or traveling. Morocco, the Maldives, open waves with a bit of swell. That's where it feels most at home.
It's not a beach break board.
It's not a board for pumping.
And that's exactly why it keeps you humble.
What I love about the Girlfriend is that, thanks to the constant vee and the round pin, it forces you to read the wave. You can't leave it until the last second and change direction.
To me, that's the essence of trimming.
Putting the board in the right place so you're never out of position.
With this board I do less than I know I can do, and I make fewer mistakes, because you can't improvise. The mindset is completely different from riding a planing board.
The Girlfriend is a board you have to listen to.
You really have to read the wave to put yourself in the right place at the right time.
I never thought I'd catch the first barrels of my life on this board. If the wave starts throwing and you've picked the right line, you'll find yourself in there.

The Girlfriend I'm surfing right now is 6'8" x 20" x 2" 5/8. I’m 1.83 m tall (6'0") and usually weigh around 78–80 kg (172–176 lbs).
