My name is Roberto Guicciardini, and I've been surfing since I was eleven years old.
I was born and raised on Medi waves , in Maremma, Tuscany.
It all started because I wanted a board that worked better in the waves I grew up surfing.
So every shape begins with a real question.A real need. The search for a feeling, never just the idea of creating another model, every board has a story behind it.
Every board is built entirely by hand, from start to finish. Handshaped by me, hand laminated and sanded.
Building a board is the easy part. Understanding the person you're building for is the hard part.
That's why every custom board starts with a conversation. I want to know how you surf, where you surf, what you're looking for and, most importantly, what you enjoy !
Only then does a custom board really make sense.
After all these years in the shaping room, what still excites me most is the process of figuring things out. Why a board doesn't work. How to make it better. Realising that sometimes just a couple of millimetres can completely change the way a board feels.
You can't put a value on the passion, care and dedication that go into every board.
It's the same feeling you get when something has been made by someone who genuinely cares. You can see their experience in it. Their hands. Their creativity. That's what I hope people feel every time they pick up one of my boards.
There are already enough mass-produced boards out there ... I believe there will always be surfers looking for something more personal. The connection between a surfer, a board and the person who shaped it. That's where surfing comes from, and to me, that's something worth holding on to ..
Every board I build starts with a person, a conversation and a real need.
At the end of the day, all I'm really trying to do is help people enjoy surfing a little more... more and more !
