Cucchiara was born after winning the Holy Foam event, thanks to a shape with similar proportions - featuring a round nose and a very parallel outline - which made it quite unique.

After that contest, the board was tested and delivered great sensations. The feel was of a board that paddled extremely well due to the wide nose, without sacrificing performance: remaining narrow through the center provided control and responsiveness.

Since then, Cucchiara has become the shortboard in my quiver for those looking for a high-performance twin fin - perfect for learning or refining vertical surfing.

It has a great ability to pivot, meaning it can control speed at the bottom of the wave and then project back upward.

Unlike other models more suited to horizontal surfing - cutbacks and foam maneuvers - Cucchiara is designed for those seeking something more radical.

It’s a "technical tool", to be used on good days, capable of adapting even to big waves, as long as they have push and power.

Where there’s speed, Cucchiara - unlike other twins that tend to be fast but hard to control - handles it better than most.

It feels more stable, able to absorb energy and release it in maneuvers like off the lip, taking on vertical sections of the wave.

It performs best in clean and smooth conditions, on open days with good waves, where you’re after fluid and high-performance surfing. It’s also surprisingly easy to surf in backside.. on open waves, backhand surfing feels smooth and fun - rare for a twin fin.

Where other twins lose control, Cucchiara digs in and re-launches.

For a shortboard-style interpretation, it’s best chosen in the round tail configuration with five fin boxes.
